At the centrepiece of this programme is Franck’s Piano Quintet. It marked a watershed in the history of chamber music repertoire when first performed due to its broad emotional range and abundance of passion. The new work in this concert (cocommissioned by Britten Sinfonia and Wigmore Hall) is written by Luke Bedford, resident composer at Wigmore Hall. Luke studied at the Royal College of Music and his music is full of brooding expressive intensity in which every note counts with maximum purpose.
