Bach exerts a strong gravitational pull on the Festival and on this programme, framing the eloquent, distinctive voices of 2010's two featured composers, George Benjamin and Pierre Boulez.

Bach's inspiration to today's composers remains undiminished, as demonstrated by Benjamin and Berio's idiosyncratic homages - orchestral transcriptions from his contrapuntal keyboard masterpiece.

Aimard's burgeoning relationship with this ensemble has caught the eye, enhancing their reputation for refreshingly daring programming and authoritative performances of orchestral repertoire.
