Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor)*
Britten Sinfonia’s acclaimed cycle of Beethoven Concertos with Imogen Cooper, which has received glowing reviews and audience praise, comes to its grand finale this season. Imogen performs and directs the orchestra in the majestic and noble ‘Emperor’ concerto. The first half of the programme provides an eloquent contrast with one of the finest and most spirited works of Mozart’s early career, and an arrangement of Janáček's Quartet No.1 for strings.
“The organic power and economy of Beethoven's writing felt more dynamic than ever. Cooper's own rhythmic regeneration of theme and counter-theme, her sense of direction, and her ability to let the music yield and breathe, led to a fearless cadenza with a movingly hushed exit.” The Times
