Britten Sinfonia

Great Britten

After a busy tour of the Netherlands Britten Sinfonia's 'Britten in America' programme has hit UK shores. Four concerts happened over the weekend, in Cambridge, Bradford on Avon, Dartington and London. This tour is the final stage of Nico Muhly's residency with Britten Sinfonia and is the premiere tour of his new piece, Impossible Things, for violinist Pekka Kuusisto, tenor Mark Padmore and strings.

"Even by the Britten Sinfonia’s eclectic standards, this programme is a wacky affair — everything from 330-year-old Purcell fantasias to American music with the dots scarcely dry on the staves. Fittingly it is led by one of the wackiest young performers on the circuit: the Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto."
Richard Morrison, T2, The Times.

The concert continues on to Cockermouth, Southampton and Norwich this week. Further details can be found here.

City of London Festival 2010

Mansion House, London
05 July 2010 7:30pm

Bach meets Brazil in this concert given by the outstanding pianist, Joanna MacGregor, and one of the UK’s most dynamic and musically inquisitive chamber orchestras, the Britten Sinfonia. This programme crosses the invisible divide between the classical and popular Brazilian music, and the concert is sure to sell out fast.
