Britten Sinfonia

Roundhouse, London performances

We have two performances coming up at the Roundhouse in London. The first is with internationally renowned pianist Joanna MacGregor on 23 January and the second on 24 January with Nico Muhly during his residency with us.

Pianist Joanna MacGregor directs Britten Sinfonia in a wide-ranging and innovative programme, on 23 January, including her own arrangements of Dowland’s haunting English songs alongside music from South America and timeless works by Bach and Stravinsky.

In our latest SinfoniaCast Joanna talks about how she finds working with an orchestra with no permanent artistic director, why she is intrigued by the lives of composers whose work she plays, and how she sees the future of music. It features exclusive extracts from the soon to be released 'Live in Buenos Aires' CD of Joanna and Britten Sinfonia, photos from recent tours to South America, and a fascinating interview with Joanna.

Young firebrand New Yorker Nico Muhly is one of the most exciting and diverse composers around today, he wrote the score for the recently Oscar nominated film The Reader.

Muhly will direct and perform with Britten Sinfonia in a programme exploring his own compositions alongside works by his musical mentors Steve Reich and Philip Glass, and new songs and arrangements with his latest collaborator, the young American roots singer Sam Amidon.

After each performance the artists will join the audience in the Roundhouse Café and foyers.

Joanna MacGregor and Britten Sinfonia, Saturday 23 January, 7.00pm
Nico Muhly and Britten Sinfonia, Sunday 24 January, 7.30pm

City of London Festival 2010

Mansion House, London
05 July 2010 7:30pm

Bach meets Brazil in this concert given by the outstanding pianist, Joanna MacGregor, and one of the UK’s most dynamic and musically inquisitive chamber orchestras, the Britten Sinfonia. This programme crosses the invisible divide between the classical and popular Brazilian music, and the concert is sure to sell out fast.
